Given the hardship we have all faced this year, I knew Christmas won’t be what it normally is. So I decided to make as many presents for family and friends as I could this year, just to show the love.
I’m a big fan of positivity papercraft on YouTube and I came across her video for homemade coasters and decided to have a go. Surprisingly they were very easy to do as I had most stuff in my stock already (minus Christmas napkins and coasters, but nothing Amazon couldn’t solve).
The thing I love most about homemade gifts is that you can really personalise them, meaning everyone’s experience of the gift will be different.
So yesterday I sat in my craft room, gathered my supplies and had a go based off Ann’s video and I think they have turned out very well.
I have used super gloss mod podge to seal the coasters which will make them waterproof once fully cured which can take 4 weeks, so good job I’ve started now. Once the napkin was damp and on the coaster, I gently pulled away the excess and then carefully filled the rest away using a cheap nail file. I then applied 2 coats of mod podge, allowing it to dry completely between coats. Finally using clear embossing ink and glitter white powder, I gently embossed the coasters and then covered them with a final coat of super gloss.
To finish them off I have painted the back and sides with gold paint. Once completely dry and cured I will gift them in packs of four in either a box or tried with Christmas ribbon.
