Good morning everyone,
I decided to make a little gift box to put the coasters in for Christmas, after deciding how many coaster people would be having, I set about working out the measurements.
For this project I have used greyboard as it will hold the weight of the coasters and not crush in the meantime like a normal plain card box would.
I have decorated the boxes using Christmas paper and am toying with the idea of adding ribbon too.
So the measurements I have used for 6 10x10 coasters are:
For the base: 11x11cm (1) and 11x3cm (4) for the sides.
For the lid: 11.6cmx11.6cm (1) and 11.6x3.4cm (4) for the sides
Using red and green card, but you can use any colour you like I set the base and two sides down on some paper, leaning about 1/8 of an inch gap between the base and the sides. Folding over the edges and cutting the corners I then proceeded to glue the edges over onto the greyboard.
With the remaining two sides for the base, you will want to glue them down onto some scrap card of the same colour or different leaving enough space around the edges to connect it to the base.
Fold the edges over the greyboard and cut away the corner squares to leave you tabs on all four sides. For one of the long sides you want to glue the card down. For the remaining long side you will need to add glue and attach this to the base of the box. Repeat this step with the remaining side. Finally you will want to glue the tabs down to the first two sides to create the base of the box. I glue them on the inside but you can also glue them into the outside of the box.
For the lid you repeat the same steps, just making it a little bigger so it will fit and close completely but with a little room so it is easy to open again and reveal the goodies inside.
If you decide to decorate the box all you need to do is choose your decorative paper or cardstock and cut out the same measurements and just cover any greyboard you see. I find it easier to do this before you construct the sides and add them on creating the box.
I hope that makes sense to everyone. I will be including pictures of my process with a step by step guide soon.
